Right after American Idol (a Livefyre customer!) crowned Season 12′s champion, an even larger music competition is coming to the final round in Europe: Eurovision. The annual competition consists of one singer from each country in the EU, either nominated by fans or an already established artist, battling it out to deem their country the top for musical talent. And because European Broadcasting Union broadcasts to countries outside of the EU including Australia, Israel, USA, Canada, China and more, this is truly an international event.

Think American Idol meets The Olympics, and instead of a studio audience the entire world is following along.

SBS, the leading Australian broadcast system, is using Livefyre’s StreamHub platform to establish their site as a hub for all the conversation and content surrounding Eurovision. Their Eurovision Media Wall is streaming pictures and other social content, tagged #SBSEurovision, in real-time. This allows fans from all over the world to connect and see , even if they are millions of miles away from each other.

To give you an idea about the magnitude of content streaming in, #SBSEurovision was the top trending topic on Twitter worldwide!

SBS also has a LiveChat on every contestant’s website page, so fans can chat with each other in real-time. After the first night of Eurovision semifinals, there were already nearly 7k comments!

The winner of Eurovision 2013 will be announced tomorrow (5/18) at 12pm PST, so check out the SBS coverage now and follow the competition in real-time: http://www.sbs.com.au/eurovision/social/

Our founder and CEO, Jordan Kretchmer, will share some of his insights about Social TV at the OMMA Social event on a panel titled, “Social TV: How Advertisers Can Explore the World Beyond the Hashtag.”

According to Nielsen, 85% of mobile owners use their tablet or smartphone while watching TV at least once per month, with 41% using their tablets daily while watching TV. Television networks are looking to create “second-screen” apps and sites to engage with their audiences and develop communities around their content, and increasingly, other types of advertisers want in. This panel will explore how networks, agencies and technology providers are creating experiences that connect with consumers and generate powerful new advertising opportunities.

With the help of Livefyre and our customers like Time, no longer do you need an invite to exclusive events to be one of the first to learn about new trends and innovations. During today’s Google I/O Keynote anyone could follow all of the breaking news being presented, in real-time.

Time’s Techland LiveBlog featured real-time updates from designated bloggers on-location. Throughout the presentation, they posted updates about what was happening live on the Moscone stage directly on the LiveBlog for everyone else to see. They even used our brand new Photo Uploading feature that allows designated bloggers to upload photos directly into the LiveBlog stream from their mobile photo library, computer or social network accounts, to add visuals to the day’s announcements. Viewers could share their own thoughts by replying directly to updates, or sharing opinions in the comment section.

Time’s LiveBlog featured real-time updates from Google I/O

Livefyre also released a Google I/O Media Wall that streamed all tweets and photos tagged #GoogleIO or #IO13 being shared from Moscone Center, the location of the Google IO conference. Tweets from featured editors, influencers and Google developers were also streamed in. This provided a great way to see all the activity surrounding the conference in one central social hub.

Livefyre’s StreamHub customers are able to aggregate social feeds from Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and more, and display them right on their site. Mashable took this to the next level and threw a celebrity into the mix- none other than Snoop Dogg himself.

They put together a LiveChat where fans had an opportunity to virtually ask Snoop Dogg questions, and he would answer them live. All they had to do was tweet the questions using the hashtag #SnoopChat. This all streamed in real-time on Mashable’s site, giving fans one central hub to view the entire conversation. They could even interact with the tweets by replying directly from the chat, or post native comments right on the site. You can view the whole conversation by visiting this link: http://mashable.com/2013/05/07/snoop-lion-twitter-chat-ipad/

Mashable further incentivized conversation by offering an iPad to one lucky fan.

Because the draft is also a very social event with fans wanting to share opinions about the teams drafting their favorite players, Sports Illustrated created a place where fans could chat with each other. They are displaying a Livefyre LiveChat in a prominent sidebar, giving a central place for the sports community to discuss the picks.

Situated next to a live update of the actual drafts, fans can voice their opinions and comment directly in the LiveChat. The chat is also streaming in relevant Tweets, Instagram images, Vine videos and more, creating a truly in-depth and engaging experience for sports fans. Like all Livefyre products all content is streamed in real-time.

Livefyre powers the LiveChat for Sports Illustrated’s NFL Draft

We already knew this, but Livefyre is now recognized publicly as one of the best places to work in San Francisco by the San Francisco Business Journal.

The San Francisco Business Times and San Jose Business Journal annually survey employees at hundreds of Bay Area companies to identify the most outstanding businesses in the region. The survey asks employees to rank their employer in areas such as teamwork, retention, co-workers, manager effectiveness, trust in senior leadership, benefits and overall job satisfaction. The best of the best are then honored in a listing of the 2013 Best Places to Work in the Bay Area.

Livefyre was named one of the best places to work in San Francisco

Founder Jordan Kretchmer says that when he founded Livefyre he wanted to “create a company where people would be inspired by each other just as much as by the work they do everyday. That means giving people the opportunity to be themselves, and making sure that every single employee is empowered to make decisions that drive the business and our customers’ businesses forward.”

Livefyre was one of a small handful of technology companies in the Bay Area that were honored with this designation, alongside AdRoll, DocuSign, Electronic Arts, EventBrite, Yammer and Zynga.
