New Platform, New Features: Introducing SocialSync

By on Oct 17, 2011 145

We’ve been brewing up something pretty exciting over here at Livefyre HQ. After months of development and tweaking, we’re ready to announce our biggest, baddest new set of features: SocialSync.

What is SocialSync?
SocialSync is a collection of features that enable publishers to share, follow and curate content in real-time as it spills out across the web.

So what’s the big deal about SocialSync?
Simply put, SocialSync is the most effective way to position your content to succeed on the social web. What exactly do we mean by succeed? More eyeballs, more interaction and more traffic.

But, you probably came here to get a bit more granular, so here we go:

People talk about your content all over the place — tweets are sent, Facebook posts are exchanged, LinkedIn articles are shared — but none of that robust interaction ever makes it back to your site.

With SocialSync, you can take control of your content by capturing these missed opportunities and pulling them into your comment stream, threaded organized and easy to read.

It’s important to mention, however, that Livefyre doesn’t just pull in a bunch of original tweets and RTs with the same link to it. We use super brainy algorithms to capture actual conversations — for example, when a reply thread starts about a link to your content.

To make things even more exciting, SocialSync also enables sharing directly with friends from the comment box. By typing the ‘@’ symbol, users can tag friends from Facebook and Twitter and invite them to join the conversation.

Cool. So what else?

Well, now that your pages are filled with social interactions from across the web, Livefyre is able to activate search engines to crawl through your site. Finally, original content is rewarded with valuable SEO credit for sparking conversations that spread throughout the Internet. In our book, that’s a huge win.

That’s it for now. If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to contact our team at support@livefyre.com as we’d be more than happy to chat.

If you’re a current Livefyre blogger, let us know what you think about SocialSync in the conversation below!

I appear to have completely missed this update :\

How did I not notice the "Conversation from Twitter" part?

I think I need to take another look at my plugin! We get a lot of traffic from Twitter and FaceBook so would be nice to integrate some of that into our commenting system :)

It seems that no developers want to add Google+ features though. I like Google+ but never seem to use it. Odd, I know... And I have no idea why!

I like it, so far so good. Just wondering how I can post and create a link with my name??? Any ideas?

Are there any plans to start crawling public Google+ posts as well? I tend to start a conversation about something in G+ and then I end up crossposting really good ones into my blog, which then gets auto-shared on Facebook and Twitter. Obviously separate conversations sprout from there, but I'd prefer to tell everyone to head over to my site to check out the *complete* conversation...Also are there plans import/x-post to other places (like youtube, ustream, flickr, etc)?? I do a ton of videoblogging and a lot of my good comments on videos happen right in YouTube. I use a wordpress plug-in now that pulls those comments from the video's page and merges it into the WP native stream... Perhaps just giving the site moderators the ability to stick in a URL into the comment thread to merge those comments together would work... (of course proper verification that the site owner and youtube/flickr/dailymotion/etc page owner are the same is needed; OAuth can handle that.) I've managed to cobble together a bootstrapped system in wordpress that does something similar, by pulling in Tweeted reactions/conversations, Facebook conversations (but from one post only) and just a one-way pull from youtube comments. It's duct-taped and Frankensteined all the way but it works 75% of the time.... Would be better if you guys did it since you're 90% there already.

Also, how about using Embedly to embed previews of media links that are in the comment stream? (http://embed.ly for info) I use their service to embed content from ANY website into my posts with their kick-ass wordpress plug in; if I want to embed media, I just put the URL to the page on one line in the post and it auto-expands into a picture, video, whatever. Would be cool if livefyre did that. OK... I guess that's it. Sorry for the book I just posted, but I'm really glad to see how Livefyre has changed in the last 6 months--I'm going to switch my comments system over to you guys in a few hours!

The Socialsync works if I use a URL shortener, like goo.gl?

Dragon Blogger 213 pts

PFF I asked the same question of LiveFyre team, t.co, bit.ly, goo.gl, ow.ly and they said it should. I think it depends on how the link was shared from the post to your social media account, the comment made on the same link shared will be read in, but if somebody cut/pastes your URL and uses a different shortener, not sure it it works. I haven't done enough testing myself.

Dragon Blogger When I use tweet button, it works fine. But if I tweet my posts automatically by feedburner, it does not.

My latest conversation: A Operação Odiseo e a morte de Alfonso Cano

Dragon Blogger 213 pts

PFF This probably because of the feed intercept, when you use feedburner to tweet it can sometimes use a tracking URL that intercepts before it forwards it on to your original post. Did you make sure you set it up so Feedburner sends direct URL and doesn't do any click tracking? It could just be goo.gl links not work, but the click tracking would probably interfere.

Dragon Blogger PFF Actually when you use Feedburner to tweet your post, it doesn't use your page URL instead it uses the feed URL which is obviously different and won't show up as a comment.
For that I would recommend using Wordtwit or Topsy plugin for wordpress. That is your best bet. I use both. Wordtwit actually can even use your blog domain for shortening service as well.

Hope that clarified your issue.

Thanks..

Dragon Blogger 213 pts

knowlizDragonPFFknowliz You can also use Dlvr.it to auto send and use your blog actual feed which has URL to your post too. It can use bit.ly to shorten the links. I use Tweet Old Post to send out updates on some slightly older articles and works similar to Wordtwit in that regard.

Hey my friends, i contact you and your replied to me about the guest or anonymous option, the message read that the option will be in 2 or 3 weeks and it has been more than a month. i hope you still have in mind putting that option of guest commenting..

if there any possible way, the log in options or post comment as options can be placed somewhere near the comment box, rather than a pop up? it will be more suitable since for example, i use several firefox add ons that block the pop up, and it is tedious to enable my pop ups, is just an idea im telling.. if you can then i hope you do it..

thanks

$JF-$ECTALLDM Hey there, just want to let you know that we have released guest commenting! http://blog.livefyre.com/guest-commenting-has-arrived/

Alos, the reason we use a pop-up is so it can be consistent across our network of sites, and because of the way it is embedded on the page.

This doesn't have much to do with SocialSync, but how can we set up Livefyre so that comments made by Wordpress blog owners sync with our Livefyre accounts? I want to be able to update my comment system so that my past comments (with Wordpress) show up as my Livefyre profile.

My latest conversation: About

jennalanger 708 pts moderator

VonsFitnessTips Hi Von, right now we don't have that ability, but we will be adding a claim comment feature to associate comments you left with your email address with Livefyre.

Its kinda weird that i have Livefyre set up on my blog for almost a month...but neither socialsync nor the comments show up on the page. Raised a concern around 15 days back, but every week or so i get a status update that they haven't been able to pick up this issue because the devs are busy building something new.

I am not sure with tese issues, i can continue using Livefyre for long. I really wanted to get this to work on my blog. Check it out on my blog, the meta on the very first post shows that i have 2 comments, but on the post i dont see any comment, socialsync or anything.

Anyone else has the same issue or is it just me...

Another thing i just noticed that it randomly pulls the latest conversation... i dont know when i piblished PicPosterous conversation. Looks like this feature is also broken.

knowliz Did you open a getsatisfaction ticket? getsatisfaction.com/livefyre? I have opened quite a few tickets and suggestions and the team is always very responsive. I recently had an email issue where I had no email updates and they found it it was related to my specific email being used. I agree though the latest conversation thing is off, my own showing Hootsuite Tutorial and Benefits is very old, I have responded to conversations much more recently on my other blogs and other blogs, I don't know why it isn't picking up so I also have this question. jennalanger I can confirm the inconsistency with picking up latest conversation and displaying it, I also have the issue where it definitely doesn't even show one from the last 24 hours, so not sure what makes it pull from a specific conversation.

Dragon Bloggerknowliz Hey there Anurag. Looking at your Facebook page, there aren't any comments that would be pulled in yet. It works by you posting a link to your article on your Facebook page, and then we import the comments that are left on that post.

For the latest conversation, some WP themes create a post when you upload an image. If comments are turned on for those posts then a conversation is created in Livefyre.

I've checked with our support team and it looks like comments have imported onto your articles. Feel free to send them another email if you have more questions.

Thanks for the quick response... One thing i do confirm that the comments are getting synced with the database, it looks like they are just not showing up on the posts. Something is wrong there.

Why I say that because on the article meta it is showing 3 comments but when i go to the article, i see no comments or social comments. That is what is bugging me.

Thanks,

Anurag Bansal

knowlizjennalanger Oh, this happens when the comment is flagged as SPAM by imperium on the 2nd pass, I see this. Go to the Livefyre moderation screen and check your spam section, if you see the comment there you know it was caught by impermium on the 2nd pass.

I opened an enhancement for Livefyre to purge the comment if it was flagged as spam after it already synced to Wordpress. If it wasn't a spam comment and caught incorrectly, unmark it on Livefyre as spam and it will show up immediately in post.

If it is neither of these issues, then it isn't something I have come across yet.

Dragon Bloggerjennalanger I have checked that there are no spam comments. They are actual comments in the wordpress database. So essentially the sync with WP database is happening properly but for some reason the comments just don't show up on the post page.

I have given another trial by deleting the Livefyre plugin and re-installing it. May be it works...Will update whatever I find out.

Thanks for all the help...

I'm liking social sync. It syncs back to my personal Facebook profile. It would be great if it could sync back instead to my Facebook Page, that would be more appropriate for me, is this even possible?

My latest conversation: About

Dragon Blogger 213 pts

CavemanKlaus I know you can sync comments from your Facebook fanpage, I tested this and it works, but when you check "post to" and share, it only goes to public profile and not the fanpage, I can't figure out a way to make it go to fanpage.

Dragon Blogger thanks I just updated and activated that. What exactly does it do? if I post my blog article to my FB wall and people Facebook comment on the Page post it syncs them back and shows those comments on the blog comments section? that seems pretty hardcore

My latest conversation: About

Dragon Blogger 213 pts

CavemanKlaus Yeah, that is pretty much exactly how it works. I see it pull in Twitter conversations often on my blog, but my Facebook page is not as active. I can show you and test it with you if you want, just send me a link to your FB page with your blog post on it and we can play around with it together.

CavemanKlaus You list it in your actual account settings, with "other sites" not as a blog you moderate. Look at my profile and you can see the blogs I moderate, but you also see "My blogs" in a separate section above > http://www.livefyre.com/profile/ just click on settings and fill out "your other sites" under your bio and the 1st site listed should show up as your dofollow backlink for your name when you comment.

markevans Super simple. Just install the plugin, and once you activate it imports all your comments. New comments go back to your DB too
